amsoil your thoughts

Ok, amsoil would not sell to major chain stores because they did not want to put the small shops/ distributors out of business. They had a deal worked up with autozone a couple of years ago for 45 million dollars on the first purchase, but they would sell it in the stores for less than what a small shop could get it for. Now the API certs., they did it on thier bottom line products but not thier top of the line, why? It costs 300,000$ for one wieght from one base line oil, let's say they had to buy the base oil from somewhere else they would immeadiately have to fork out another 300K to have it certified. They did check it the first go round in the 80's and it passed with flying colors and they felt they don't have the need to do it again.

I run AMSOIL right now. I will agree it is a little pricey but well worth it.

Agree with some others that Amsoil is good stuff but overpriced. Also I am suspicious of their multi-level marketing sales method (think Amway).

m1 is HIGHLY overrated imo. there are wayyy better synthetics out there.
Pennzoil Platinum. I have gotten better UOA's with PP than M1 on every engine I've compared them in and PP costs about $1 less a quart.
Used Oil Analysis is the only way to know for sure.

Not bashing Mobil 1, I'm just sayin'.... I have been running Mobil 1 0w-30 Fuel Economy Formula in my Sport Trac (it needs all the help it can get) for two years and the UOA's are fine. I change every 5000 miles, which is probably overkill, but the math for Amsoil only works out if you leave it in for a year like they recommend. Sorry, I can get a jug of Mobil 1 and a Motorcraft filter at Wal-Mart for $26, change twice a year, and it costs less than using Amsoil.

I don't run amsoil in my truck but I run it in my 2-stroke dirtbike and it's good stuff. Ya it's pricy 11.00 a bottle but it's worth it in my opinion.

Check this out:

My favorite is:

"I stay away from Amsoil for reasons that are far too detailed."

Some engines are more prone to sludging than other engines. VW and Audi have these engines, so they developed their own test and specs for oil
sludging. Here are the oils that PASS their tests:

Notice there are NO Scamsoil products listed, matter of fact, Scamsoil came out with a TSB about sludging in some engines, and recommended following the auto manufacturer's OCI, instead of the extended OCI BS they claim, to
justify the inflated price of their products!! They also recommend using their XL product, which is their ONLY API certified product!!
Sounds like they have gotten into deep poo-poo claiming their NON-API certified oils can run for 25K miles! Notice with these "sludge prone" vehicles, they are recommending to use their ONLY API certified oil for gasoline engines (XL), and they are saying to stay with the vehicle manufacturer's recommended oil change intervals!!
