amsoil what do you think?/

If you want to use it go for it. Mobil 1 is all I use but I'm sure Amsoil is a good product. The only thing I question is they say they are the best then show me the proof. Not just a test study number. Give me the actual breakdown rates, viscosity rates over the useful life of the oil etc...

All the companies say they are the best. Until they prove it I'll use Mobil 1 because you never hear of any car companies saying use this brand of oil in this car except Mobil 1.

+1 on the Mobil. I think Ford actually buys their oil from Mobil and just re-stickers it.

This web site will answer any and all questions about oil. Course it's been around for a while and you may have to do your research but if you want to know you'll find it here.

Do your homework before you decide. Motor oil is the life blood of your engine!

amsoil is a true top notch product. i use it in all of my race bikes. but unfortunately, at $14/quart, its not suitable for my truck. good ol' conventional pennzoil does just fine (as confirmed by ASTM tests, pennzoil is the SUPERIOR conventional).

I'm sure there's alot of into there, but I really detest it being the end-all be-all resource for oil. I've got alot of beef with his tests and comparisons. I've felt they've missed some key areas of consideration or botched the comparative tests.

I can't find the tests in particular on his page, it has changed. There's no search function.

The oil filter test:
He went on and on about # of pleats, construction, etc. One thing he never mentioned was how many microns the filters would handle. Kind of important information eh? How small of a particle will it actually filter?.

Some oil brand test: (Schaffer's?)
Compared it to straight types of oil, oil with additives to this "super oil", It was amazing! Wait, sponsored by "insert super-oil company's name here" hmm... that doesn't raise an eyebrow. It's like a study on smoking and health that the tobacco companies sponsored. He never added anything to the magic oil, always ran it straight unlike the others. Left a few too many variables out for my liking.

Amsoil (last I heard) didn't have the (API? SAE?) seal on it that it met minimum requirements. The only person I know personally who has ran it, is on his 3rd engine. Take it for what it's worth.

Run Mobil 1 and forget about it.

Overpriced and does nothing that M1 doesn't do. Run it with a diesel-engine spec oil filter and you're golden. They are generally of a finer filtration requirement than gas engine filters.

m1 is HIGHLY overrated imo. there are wayyy better synthetics out there.

Running it in an engine would get pretty expensive pretty quick. Mobil 1 for sure. I do have Amsoil in the differential but when i re gear this week I wont be using it again. Havent noticed anything bad about it but i just dont think its worth the price or the hassle of ordering it when i can get other good kinds at the parts store.

red line, amsoil, supposedly royal purple but im not a fan.

valvoline synpower and a quart of lucas synthetic additive....cant beat that. synthetic fluid in my trans and rear diff. all valvoline.
i guess i might be kind of partial considering i work there.

never ran amsoil in trucks or cars but its all i ran in my banshee

actually amsoil does all of the tests and gives burnoffs and breakdowns and filtration micron specs. ect.

I have personally run mobil1 and amsoil and imo there is no comparison. the amsoil lasts much longer. and the absolute efficiency filter is proven second to none.
