Ak907Girl got a truck for her birthday!!

You guys forget I grew up on snowy icey winter and dirty dry rutted pot holed roads in Alaska. I've been in stuck trucks in rivers, mud, and all over the back roads of Alaska. (I know how to break a 100 ft old tree in half with a tow strap and a truck. lol my dad is an Alaskan Redneck for sure.)

Happy #29.....so.....after reading the above list--got anything else that needs conquering???????????????

I would have to agree with 4WD. I have lived in alaska pretty much my entire life in the bush. You can get around with two wheel drive, but you are going to have problems. Just because you say you can drive doesn't mean you can, and also 4wd isn't a fail safe. I've seen more 4wd full sizes in the ditch than regular cars. It's all about mindset. On the other hand 4wd is great for the winter time, and personally i don't think it was the greatest idea buying 2wd for alaska. And also if you are going to spend 10k on a truck you might as well get something 4wd and a three quarter ton at the least for the bigger breaks. I personally wouldn't buy a half ton because you can pull more but the drivetrain and breaking system can't handle it. Anyways congrads on the new truck and happy bday

Nice find. I'm still waiting to get my first big boy truck. I've been driving junkers my whole 26 years of licensed driving.

2wd works for just getting around. A truck has good ground clearance which goes through the snow okay with some weight in the bed. 4x4 breeds over-confidence. Probably, keeping a 2wd mentality while driving a 4x4 is the best. I prefer a 4x4, by far, but my full-size pickup is a 4x2 and with a Detroit Locker, mud tires and a conservative attitude, I do okay. I couldn't go wheeling in it, but it gets me around.

Bought that with all that money you don't have huh?
.
Those are nice trucks, but they don't get great MPGs. Sometimes they were even worse than the 4.6 F150.

Yea....no money to fix the old Ranger, but money to buy a used pig on gas and a 2wd where she lives?? Now....how is she going to pay for the repairs that this one is going to need...maybe soon...since it is a used truck and no waranty???

Uhh, it does have a warranty. Read post #13. And it has only 11k miles. I doubt it'll need any repairs any time soon.

Probably won't be outpulling the chassis with a 4.2...

Compared to the F-250 at work I would much rather have my F-150 with the same engine. Rides nicer, drives nicer, handles nicer, gets a lot better milage... just like anything you have to stay realistic with what you want to do though. People overdo it with 3/4 ton+ trucks all the time as well.

I can pull my 5k tractor on a tandam axle car trailer just fine, which is all I need to do with it. :icon_thumby:

You don't get much of a real waranty on on 4 1/2 year old truck. That is what I am talking about.

6 year /60k IIRC?

Sometimes dealers do something else too. If you buy one at our local dealer every other oil change is free and you get a lifetime engine warrenty.

A used vehicle is a crapshoot no matter what, hopefully this one is young enough to not have too many problems. No offence to Lilly but it kinda sounded like you could fix and fix on her and it would still be broke... I bet I will have close to $10k trying to make something out of nothing with my truck. It would have been money better spent to have just moved on... than have a $10k truck that is worth $2k.

That is an awfully nice truck since you posted not too long ago that you had no money. You must have had a very profitable B Day!!!!
My birthday is coming up and all I ever get is dinner and a couple of T shirts. LOL.

If an extended warranty is wanted, Ford ESP is the way to go. US Fidelis and Warranty Direct are complete ripoffs.
Credit Unions offer great extended warranties too.

In my opinion, the (Super Duty) F250 with a 5.4 is a really bad combo. My Father in Law had a 97 F250 (same as the F150, but beefier suspension, etc.) and he pulled 4 horses no problem with it. It hit 200,000 miles, so he traded it in on an 01 F250 (Super Duty style), and it struggled with it - so he got rid of it.
