I'd like to replace the conventional battery in my 24 year-old Ford Ranger FX4 with an AGM. Unfortunately, the group size 59 OEM battery doesn't have a direct AGM replacement. Does anyone here have a recommendation for an AGM battery size that won't require me to modify the battery tray or hold-down bracket? Thanks!

Odyssey sells a battery that is supposed to fit. There is another brand that escapes me at the moment. I thought I had them bookmarked, but apparently not.

Edit: Found it! XS Power is the other brand. I have not tried these myself. They are only listed as fitting a 201 Ford Ranger, which should be the same as most of the other Rangers that came before it, if not all.

I'm running an Odyssey in my Ranger and I like it. Though I have room for a group 65.

Thanks very much for the information! I'm on it!:)

Batteries Plus carries X2 AGM battery line which is the same as Odyssey except for the color of the plastic.
5 year no bullshit warranty too. THAT is impresssive.

Hey! Congratulations on revealing the ONLY AGM battery available in Group Size 59 - which is a direct "drop-in" replacement in the 2002 Ford Ranger series. That doesn't even come up on a Google search, so I don't know where you found that information, but it was helpful. Unfortunately, at $419, even though it's brand new, it's a "non-starter!"

AGM batteries are spendy compared to regular flooded lead acid batteries.

Yes they are! I just put one in my 2016 Jeep Renegade and it cost me about $280. I decided to go AGM because I live down a pretty rough dirt road out in the boonies. AGMs have a more robust build quality for off-road driving. But $400+ to go AGM in the Ranger, is just a little more than I want to spend. I'm just gonna put a regular flooded group Size 59 in there and roll with it! I really appreciate you chiming in with that information though. Also, sounds like you've got a nice pair of Rangers in your "stable." Congrats?

I'm blind. I don't see AGM Group 59.

Yep. The 2011 is the work mule, with a side job of light overlanding. The 2019 is the family truckster/backup vehicle with a side job of heavy overlanding.
