So putting together an 86 Ranger that currently has no wiring in it. I've got a 84 that I could pull the body harness from, but it's 31 years old and I'm not sure of the condition. Several years ago a Ranger owner on one of the forums has his first gen burn to the ground shortly after he finished building it and the source was traced back to the factory wiring. I'm thinking I would like to go all new wiring and know what I'm starting with.
Have any of you used an aftermarket body/chassis harness in a first gen Ranger? If so what did you use? How did it fit? Any problems post install?
I plan to retain the first gen Ranger steering column and dash, so will be wiring it to all the original switches. Also have the totaled 84 that I can probably pull any connectors I needed from. Right now I just need the bare essentials to get it running and drivable, but needs to have room for expansion. Eventually I'll probably add in power windows, power door locks, A/C and a few other accessories, but right now I just need to get it drivable.
Biggest thing I've got to contend with is I'll be using an Explorer V8, 4R70W, and EFI system. I'll convert it into a standalone system so that shouldn't be an issue.
