Advice for winter??

i'd recommend against the limited slip. If you have both tires spinning in poor traction it can kick you sideways real easy. With an open diff you have the non-drive tire helping to hold your line. You put the limited slip in and I predict you'll be spending a lot of time sideways.

I've never understood the problem with limited slip. I drove a GMC van with limited slip - seemed to do just great in the snow (and this was a limited slip that didn't want to unlock).

I have a 2wd ranger that I'm re-gearing and adding an Aussie locker (8.8 Explorer upgrade). Chained up and loaded, the stock open-diff works OK, but definitely digs with passenger rear tire. I'm expecting much better performance with the locker as I think that both chained up wheels digging will improve straight line performance.

I understand that being on an icy slope without chains would result in the rear end sliding into the slope with the locker. I'm also wondering a bit about decelerating and turning an icy corner with the Aussie. I guess I'll find out when I get it finished. The reviews I've read said it was no big deal to get used to the winter handling.
