Although I do have a regular job, like most people the budget is stretched thin these days.

I was wondering what some of the TRS members did for additional sources of income.

I mean you see all these adds in the newspaper for "Make Up to $3500 Extra A month". Although I think these kinds of adds are scams because of the whole "Up to" part and the fact that I think that they don't tell you everything, like sure you can make $3500 a month, but we charge $2000 a month for your supplies and you have to pay $1200 a month at the post office sending off this crap. Has anyone ever done this and how did it go?

What else do the members do? I have tools and a toolbox and was a mechanic for several years before I started selling auto parts and I can do a lot of mechanic work from simple tune ups (sometimes not so simple these days) to assemble and install engines.

I know of some people that cut and split firewood but I rent an apartment and don't have permission to do that.

Me and my dad sell parts off our parts rigs for a little extra cash. Its pretty cool to buy a rig for $300 and I take the 4.10 axles and sell the rest of the parts and make $600+ on it. Not much but it helps.

I do oil changes and other simple mechanic work at my college. Things you can do in the parking lot...tune ups, electrical work, etc. It keeps me going throughout the year.

I pick up side jobs doing work on peoples boats, things like waxing and wahsing, simple maintnance work as well. I use to be able to bring in a couple thousand a month during the spring summer and fall, but that was living in the chicagoland area with people who i have known for a long time. Now im up in michigan and theres just not the money up here to support it.

To old for two jobs.

I have gotten to know all my neighbors on my street (to gain trust) and Have told them if they ever need a house/pet sitter that I'm their man for the job. Last year total I made a good 3 grand. It works if you never go anywhere lol

yea, im in college, and would like a part-time job.. but i dont want to work some shitty place for minimum wage.. i'd rather do odd job type things, so i'll be watching this thread for ideas too :icon_bounceblue:

When i was in college, I bought cars on ebay.... then fixed & cleaned them up, and sold them locally.

I am talking like $800 cars selling for $2000, so all in all not bad. I tried to go more for old luxury cars, and pimp them out.... always a market for that in certain areas.

Did pretty well.

I'd rather work a minimum wage job than no job and can't find odd jobs. A little income is better than no income, besides most minimum wage jobs won't work a person more than 32 hours a week here in California. And some would rather have 2 people at 16 hours a week than 1 at 32, makes it easier for when a person quits.

What I did...

I was looking for money to buy a new car a while back.
I started delivering pizza 2 nights a week.
The math worked out that I only needed 50 hours a month to cover my $600 projected cost.
Somehow got roped in for 2 weeks to work about 25 hours a week delivering.
It was then I ralized that I was making about $2 less per week at my BIG job
(48-54 hours a week) as I was in 25 hours delivering.
Quit the Big job!

Now on the side I buy "sitters". These are cars that I discover delivering that seem in reasonable shape yet have expired tags and inspection.
Fix em and resell for good profit.
Bought 2 Escorts this week..both are up and running nice for under $1000 for both.
Bought a couple of Rangers...$250 and $500...another $800 for fixing them up.
Sold one for $1600 and drive the poo out of the other!
Part stuff out on EBay too!

Since I am not working 60 hour a week anymore I can indulge in the old buy low, sell high stuff. I can go to garage sales and storage auctions whenever I want.
Bought 2 books today at an estate sale that will fetch about $200.

I found some like minded friends and we make money a game.
We even have the "Wormy Dog Award"for the best deal made.
My brother is the current holder due to buying a car for $50,
spending $11 and 6 hours fixing and cleaning and then he sold it BACK TO THE GUY HE BOUGHT IT FROM for $600!!

Best thing to do is get on a budget.
You will discover that you have plenty of money but waste a lot on trivial stuff.

That's a big one, destroys a lot of my friends incomes.

I am full time student and I always find the strangest little jobs to make money: range master, bird watcher, tennis court technician, clay pigeon thrower, security officer, math and physics tutor, just to name a few.

I also work for a balloon delivery company on the weekends. We do balloons for all sorts of occasions (yes I can make balloon animals). $11/hr, paid lunch, gas, and a great boss. Makes it a good weekend thing.

I sell my photography, mostly landscape/cityscape shots (framing too).

I make quite a bit off that, though it is one of my hobbies...

I sell crack on the street

My mother and I own a business.. "LH Interiors"... she does drapes and such for homes, while I do automotive interiors. I've had 4 customers so far, but I'm not pushing my advertising hard really. One just got a photoshoot for minitruckin' magazine last month.
