Additional Income

I was looking for money to buy a new car a while back.
I started delivering pizza 2 nights a week.
The math worked out that I only needed 50 hours a month to cover my $600 projected cost.
Somehow got roped in for 2 weeks to work about 25 hours a week delivering.
It was then I ralized that I was making about $2 less per week at my BIG job
(48-54 hours a week) as I was in 25 hours delivering.
Quit the Big job!

Now on the side I buy "sitters". These are cars that I discover delivering that seem in reasonable shape yet have expired tags and inspection.
Fix em and resell for good profit.
Bought 2 Escorts this week..both are up and running nice for under $1000 for both.
Bought a couple of Rangers...$250 and $500...another $800 for fixing them up.
Sold one for $1600 and drive the poo out of the other!
Part stuff out on EBay too!

Since I am not working 60 hour a week anymore I can indulge in the old buy low, sell high stuff. I can go to garage sales and storage auctions whenever I want.
Bought 2 books today at an estate sale that will fetch about $200.

I found some like minded friends and we make money a game.
We even have the "Wormy Dog Award"for the best deal made.
My brother is the current holder due to buying a car for $50,
spending $11 and 6 hours fixing and cleaning and then he sold it BACK TO THE GUY HE BOUGHT IT FROM for $600!!

Best thing to do is get on a budget.
You will discover that you have plenty of money but waste a lot on trivial stuff.

You're on the right track man! I know a few guys who do the same thing with houses. They started small and worked their way up to real estate. two of them are millionaires.
Me, on the other hand... They pay me just enough at my "BIG" job to keep me from quitting.
I play drums in two bands just about once every weekend, worth about $100 a night. Fun and profitable, but sometimes I hardly have the energy for it!
Good thread

I sell myself on 4th St.:secret:

:joke:

I collect and recycle aluminum cans

I am fortunate enough that I don't HAVE to do extra work but I end up doing auto tranny's on the side. Some months I have nothing- like this month-- others are worth a few G's. I normally don't do the R+I so most of it is bench work. Easy.

i haul as much scrap as i can. for the most part, my dad buys cars as 'projects' and any scrap he ends up with i get to take in. he says its worth it just for him to get rid of it.

I usually help my neighbor cut grass during the summer to earn some extra cash. We both have a regular second shift job.

To old for two jobs.

Ditto for me.

I used to do side work but swore it off several years ago. It paid good. I could usually generate a couple grand extra a month. I rarely had any free time though. Now, after 26 years of fixing cars for a living, I don't wanna touch a wrench unless it's between the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Even when my vehicles need attention, I'll squeeze 'em in during the work week. I can count on one hand the number of folks that I will do something on the side for them, one of 'em is a fellow Ranger buddy here.

The pay is pretty good for me but if my wife loses her job (the mortgage industry is getting awful slow these days) then I'll have to suck it up & start doing side jobs again.

I'm a junior at Alabama (ROLL TIDE!!!!) But I still do HVAC work ( I am EPA certified and am working on gaining my contractor's license for the state of Alabama). I also do some electrical and plumbing on the side.

i pimp out my two sisters. JK
im a full time mechanic but i do some wrench turning on the side for friends and family.

i work pt at a grocery store... most of my spare time iam out fabricating parts for friends.. welding exhaust systems bulding bumpers.. an expecially building custom fiberglass/mdf sub boxes.. is something i enjoy doing so why not enjoy doing something an make some cash at it as well..

i used to haul a lot of scrap and every load i hauled in i made sure that i did everything i could to get the highest price out of it, i cleaned up the radiators by taking the steel and plastic off of them, i took the battery cables and heater cores out of the cars, heater cores went with rads and the cables got the insulation stripped off and the copper got thrown in the copper bucket, i will even smash a junk starter solenoid to get the copper out of it, i hauled in a load of copper that weighed 100 pounds and i got a 250 dollar check... but since fuel prices have gotten so high i have stopped cuz it just aint worth it...looks like i will be paying attention to this thread and getting more ideas...

i have a couple of rental homes that i rent out, and we also have about 100 pecan trees that the wife and i planted around 12 yrs. ago.they are just starting to put off a good crop that we get about 2500 to 3000 lbs. of pecans to sell.

My dad and I are actually planning on buying an aerator.

We can charge around $50 to poke some holes in someones small lawn.

Do it on weekends during the spring and summer...........I can picture myself rolling and swimming in money.

I am fortunate enough that I don't HAVE to do extra work

I don't HAVE to either, but the more money you have, the more toys you can have

-Do some selling on E-bay and part out some cars/trucks....

buy cars, fix em resell em, bought a 92 sploder for 200, put a new tranny in it (100) sold it for 1500. looking for another exploder for a parts rig for the ranger too.

In a hurry?

The items mentioned earlier were just the quick and easy stuff.
Look long term also.
I was lucky that my Dad was in Real Estate and helped me buy a few houses.
The plan was to rent them out to make the payments.
Had to keep the day job because not every month (or year even) was break even.
As they got paid off we used the sudden increase to make other investments...some worked and some didn't.
Condos in Lewisville were a real learning experience.
Biggest result is that all my brothers and family live in totally paid off houses,
have a nice income that allows us to get ahead and we can jump when a good deal appears.
How often have YOU come across a killer deal, but had no money?

I could live off the current income from our investments but it is more fun to allocate those funds to create new investments or provide for retirement.
I tried for a while, but I went crazy with nothing to do so I delivered pizza for
a bit of pocket money.

This spring I plan an experiment in starting with 0 dollars, no car and spare time to earn a living.

This will be my 4th financial persona!

Money is a game, know the rules and play to win!!
