i want to add ac to my 86 ford ranger its a 4cyl 2.3 gas. i dont know if any trucks this year had ac but if anyone has a diagram on where the compressor would be mounted that would help a lot thanks. :icon_thumby:

Check the tech section on this site. Every year anger had A/C as an option, but in the 80's, it didn'r seems as common as in the 90's, especially in colder areas.

I thought about adding A/C to my 87 2.9 and actually found a whole factory A/C removed from a Ranger about the same year as mine, on ebay. You might try to find someone parting out a Ranger and get all the A/C parts off it.

you will have to also do a r134 conversion as any parts you get will be old r12.. also if you get all new parts you could use pag oil if you get used parts you will need ester oil. you should in any case get new o rings for 134 system, orifice tube, and reciever drier. if used parts get a/c flushing kit for condenser and evaporator.

I have a 94 but its right on top of the engine, above the power steering pump. I have installed the evap housing and the dash controls just have to get the rest. I will probably try to piece it together with new parts over a time period. I have been trying to get a whole dash that had a/c and cruise. That fell on to the back burner and is still there. They say you will need the box on the firewall to get the a/c controls to work correctly. Good luck and take some pictures if you give it a go. There really isnt a lot of info on it.If you have a couple of grand just laying around you could get one of these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/180920545694?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
