AcesHigh 1994 Ranger Project

Just a question -- for anyone really -- in your image of the engine compartment (image3 on August 31) Your air intake tube looks way different from my stock 94 4.0L. Well, the tube looks the same, but the air box is completely different - where is the MAF? Is it an aftermarket? Anyone? Thanks.

EDIT: Or is the donor engine a 3.0L?
R
The donor is a 95 4.0. The manual shows the MAF in the attached image, and I can see it there in the pic. You’re correct that it’s a bit different from the 94. I have a pic of my 94 on August 26th where you can see the difference.

Thanks ACE!

The 95+ 4.0 intakes are way more common around me at least. I spent 20 minutes staring at one in the junkyard a while ago trying to decide if I could retrofit the 95+ intake into my 94.

While I believe it could be done, I think you would need to swap in the 95+ overflow/washer fluid tank.

Before I could attempt it, I finally found a decent condition 94 4.0 intake hose so I let it go for the time being.

Would need to figure out if to mount up the 94 MAF as well or do some testing to see if the 95+ MAF could work with the 94 PCM if the wiring was modified.

The 95 MAF body looks the same as the 94. I'd bet it would bolt in...

So digging through my stash of parts, I found a 95+ intake and intake hose that I must have grabbed at some point. I guess i removed the MAF sensor 'holder' that goes in the body of the intake for some reason. You're right, a 94 and below MAF would fit right up to that:

Then it would just slip in the intake here. Would probably modify the rubber plug that routes the wires as well to better suit the 94 wiring.

I need to take a look at what would be in the way of placement in my 94 still. I'm thinking the overflow/washer fluid tank, but that could be swapped out as well for a 95+ I imagine...
