My air conditioner is not blowing cold and my compressor kicks on and off pretty quickly and I’m curious what it would take to get it to cool again since it’s getting hotter out.

in my experiences, ac kicking on and off fairly quickly means its low on freon. i would get one of those cans from walmart that has a hose and gage on it and hook it up to the truck while the truck is running and the ac is set to high and let it fill. once the gage is in the green area, and its cooling, good to go.

Yes but...

If its a 2.9 its going to take R12...since all 2.9's were built in that period.

OP youll have to buy the conversion kit (basically just different valve adaptors) to use the more modern and available R134.

You may need whats left of the old R12 sucked out of the system...im not sure.

That's exactly what I would suggest, if your truck has an R134a AC system.

If it's the 1989 model in your signature, you'll need to make sure that it's been converted from from R12 to R134a.

If your AC system is still running the original R12, I don't think that you buy a can of "add-a-charge"; you're better off in that case, by doing the complete conversion to 134a.

Edit: dammit, Rusty beat me to it; I'm really getting slow . . . . .
