I disassembled my 1994 A4LD last night. It came from behind a 4.0. It has about 158,000 miles on it and has never been apart (at least not since Dad bought the truck with less than 20,000 miles on it).
When I removed the center support, there was no thrust washer or bearing between it and the reverse/high/forward clutch assembly. The resources I've been using (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98027 and http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/pdf_documents/A4LD_manual.pdf) say something should be there.
This transmission has a lot of miles and I don't see any scarring or damage between the two surfaces (support and drum)
Where there transmissions that did not have a bearing/washer here? Maybe mine jumped out and rolled across the floor when my back was turned.
Any experience on this matter?
