I have a 87 ranger with the 2.9 and a4ld. my tranny is always kickin up and down in 3rd and OD cuz it has the half gears where the torque converter locks and unlocks. so i know the vaccuum modulator has a little allen head screw in the side but is that for adjustment? or does anybody know a cure for it. i already installed a torque converter lockup switch but i do alot of city driving and always forget to flip it when i come to a stop so i usually just leave it off.

I have a truck of the same year and set up..

My truck did this every now and again (depending on the angle of the road and how much throttle) because my throttle cable was stretched out. Since the pedal had some slack in it the TV cable thats also attached wasn't quite matched with the throttle.
I know it sounds kind of odd but try this since there is probably slack in it anyway! It made a big difference for me since the throttle was only open 2/3....

This might help somewhat. Maybe completely..who knows but if it doesn't let me know. I'll look up in my book how to set that modulator. The vac line is hooked to it right? It's definitely getting vac?

Yea ive done the ziptie trick already. my tranny went out in august and my old one kinda did it but not as bad as this one. and im certain the vaccuum line is on the regulator. i bought a new one cuz i thought maybe it was goin bad but idk i want to just find a 5 speed lol
