i have a 94 ranger ex cab xlt 4.0 automatic with the A4LD transmission. My problem is it hesitates up shifting. Once the truck gets around 3 grand and should up shift it hesitates until i let of the gas a little then it up shifts. Ive been searching around here for a few days and have all ready checked the vacuum modular. and re adjusted the kick down cable and no luck. i also changed the filter and replaced the fluid(thinking if its a stuck valve it will free it up) and still nothing. I'm at a loss with this truck. If anyone has had this same problem some in-site would be great. also if it is a stuck valve how hard would it be to pull the valve body off to check? i looked up the how to on the explorer forum site and it looks pretty complicated:dunno: I just don't want to pull it off and not be able to put it back together.... any help would be great. thanks in advance nate

You say you checked modulator..did you check to see if you had vacuum to it with a vacuum gauge or what??

Hows 3-4 shift?? is it only the 1-2 2-3 shift thats late??

i pulled the modulator off and left the hose on then ran it, the pin slides in and out. i have a vacuum tester but wouldn't know what reading it should be at, or to test it at the engine or at the modulator. I'm not sure if it does it or not going from 3-4, what does that mater? are you thinking the solenoids in the transmission pan? If so how would you test them? my mechanic buddy told me they cant be tested due to them only engaging at certain rpms so i haven't messed with them. Ive been reading on here as much as i can and I'm thinking maybe the governor at the rear of the transmission? thanks for your help its greatly appreciated
