A very... very... sad turn of events... :/

Well, the claim is dropped now. Now to put an add up for a decent box lol. Odds are tho that i wont find anything. But boxsides i can only get the ones that i cut out a few feet and weld in the new wheel wells lol. So this is my best route for now... I beleive i heard a while ago that both gen 1 and 2 boxes are the same?

Just hope you don't accidentally get rearended by a fat sweaty trucker named Earl that drives an 18wheeler. That might be painful.

Leave it to Topher to have these kinds of visions floating around in his head.:D

Here's an option for you that you may want to look into. I watch the local classifieds here and see trailers made from a Ranger bed. You could watch for one of those and just swap beds, then sell the trailer with your bed on it.

EDIT: I bought one for $100 a couple years ago. They usually go for $100-$300 here.

Never seen one. But then again, ive never looked either lol. I guess ill see what comes up. Not really a big rush. Just want to get my truck back to the way it was before (minus the paint i guess), and then continue to lift like i was about to lol.

1st and 2nd gen boxes are the same, I think tail lights changed a bit. 3rd gen boxes fit too. Taking Splash boxes and bolting them on 1st or 2nd gen trucks used to be a popular way to get a 1st or 2nd gen flare-side.

Thanks. So were the lights bigger/smaller/shaped differently? Or just a differnt design, but fits in good either way? lol

I don't remember. Its been a long time since I've seen a 2nd gen truck. I'm just pretty sure that they are different. If you buy a whole bed you can plug your lights into the donor's lenses no problem though.

this probably isn't what you're going for, but why not make a flat bed? i've seen people make them out of wood

by seen, i mean heard of...

most flat beds have wooden planks, a wooden frame wouldn't make much of a difference IMO

in regards to the tail light thing i think my truck is first gen (88) and from what i can see your tail lights are the same as mine so it shouldn't look and different but i don't know much about it

i was thinking about the total/fix dilema, i'm fairly sure in canada, the insurance is required to give you market value of the vehicle when they total it, then it's theirs, i don't think you can buy it back, if you choose to keep it, they give you 80% of the value of a shop to repair it, if that 80% is more than the value if they total it, they won't give you the full amount... though i tihnk the insurance company can condemn it if they feel it's too much damage

also, in canada, if your vehicle has been changed to a salvage title, it has to undergo a very through inspection before you will be allowed to register it again... they look for frame rust, holes anywhere, if there is rust on the body which results in a pin sized hole, it will not pass, if you have a switch on your dash that doesn't function, it will not pass...

Ya how it works here is they would look at the amount of damage... We'll say 1600 for that... Then they look at the base value of trucks like mine and whgat they sold for in the last year... We'll say 1100 for that... Since the damage is more than the value they came up with, they would salvage it. They would then give me the 1100 for my truck and give me the option to buy it back for something like 10%. But then i would need to get it inspected, and like you said.. Thats not fun

Thanks guys. I guess ill see if anything comes up for a new box. A flatbed isnt really something im looking for, and if i was going that route it would have to be a solid metal one lol :P

Never seen one.

Here's mine. It's not in the shape you'd want, but now you've seen one. :icon_thumby: BTW, it's an 87 bed.

Are there even any places around here that make custom bumpers and such? I REALLY want a solid metal one that i wont have to worry about it breaking lol. Would be great for looks and also be a tank if/when i eventually get into another acsident. :P Anyone know of any info on this sort of thing? Or maybe is there someone near Moose Jaw that could make me one for a half-decent price?

Dont really like the tube look too much. Kind of looking for something more like this. But this is like 600 bucks without the shipping lol...

what you're looking for is a plate bumper, there are lots of people here in calgary that can make them for you, if you are serious about getting one, i can talk to a couple friends of mine and get you an estimate for yours, you want front and back? and how-solid steel? different thicknesses are going to cost different amounts...
