Hello, Mike and Michele from north central Indiana. My wife is new to Rangers and Ford's in general. I have owned a Ranger in the past (1995) along with a couple full size F250 Powerstrokes. She recently bought a 1998 Ranger splash off her co-worker/friend. I got tired of my gas hog full size Dodge, sold it and bought myself a 1996 red Ranger step side. Both are 4 cyl/5spd manuals. Hers is ice blue with graphics on the side and mine is just plain red. We will be adding a few personal touches to both trucks as time and money permits. I have plenty of time, just not the money part. I have Asperger's Syndrome, a type of high functioning autism, which restricts what I can do for work and how much I can work before I am exhausted and have to recover. I will get pics of the trucks soon. Mike.

Welcome to TRS Mike And Michele!

Good to see you picked the 4 bangers...the 1998 2.5 is essentially the 2.3 with a longer stroke so they are very similar...in case you haven't had a chance to check them over too closely...

There are many knowledgeable people on the site that can help if you need any...and if you are felling the pinch both trucks should give you pretty good gas mileage...better than your old dodge...maybe not the same power...lol...but it's over rated anyway...

Enjoy!~

welcome! just make sure to watch out for the rear frame on that 98. They were in the start of the bad frame rot years. My 97 is not immune, and I had to grind off/replace the rear suspension mounts.

If you need help with that, bring beer and parts down to Indy!
