A few A4LD to M5OD questions

No the tranny will slide back and out, especially with a 3" BL. Flywheel will bolt up, somewhere around 98 they went from 6 to 8 bolt flywheels.

Ok, that's what I thought, the 6 and 8 bolt thing in 98.

I will take it out the bottom then. My uncle, who works at a wrecking yard, is who told me I'd have to cut the crossmember thing out to get the tranny out the bottom. I'll believe people who have taken them out of thier own cars, rather than him though, I'm sure wrecking yards don't take them out correctly anyway...

There is NO need to cut the cross member off; unbolt it like it is supposed to come off.

Uhhh... It doesn't unbolt though. It's riveted on. Two rivets on each frame rail, but the two haves are bolted together using two bolts, in the center of said crossmember.

That is what I was thinking when I said cut it out. That's what I did on my 93 Ranger. The thing was bent from the wreck it was in when I got it, so it already has bolts. Just not the one from the Exploder.

Ok, I have a question to add to my list.

For the pedal assembly, I knwo that I need to find one form a similar year truck, but a 94 Explorer, and 93 Ranger have the same pedal assembly? I know the truck rigs have alot in common structure wise, so I am not sure if the pedals would be the same or not.

If they're the same (will bolt up) then it's not a problem. If they are going to be different, then I need to go get an assembly from the wrecking yard.

Oh, and Hahns, I can see why you said you probably can't get the motor and tranny out the top... The tranny came out the bottom pretty easy, but liek you said, the motor with the clutch and accesories was a bit tight...

Nobody??

Also, none of the yards around me have any '93 4.0L manual Rangers, or Explorers...

Would a 91 or 92 computer work, or did the chenage the motor in that time too?

You need the 93 computer. Couldn't tell you about the pedal assembly but my guess is they're similar.

You don't have to get the pedal assembly out of a 4.0 Ranger, you can get it out of a 4 banger.

The PCM must come out of a '93 4.0 w/ a 5 speed.

Ok, thanks guys.

I figured the pedals were the same in all the manual trucks (of the same year).

Damn, it's gonna suck finding a computer for it...

None of the Wrecking yards I looked at had a 4.0L 5spd, let alone a '93!

I am going to the local you pull it yard next Saturday. I know they have a '93 4.0 5 speed. If you want me to grab the PCM, let me know.

Mjones, Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll pass.
I will look at the site that 68Ranger posted, but more than likely I'll just get one from a wrecking yard when they get one in. (My uncle, and friend both work at the same yard, so they are keeping an eye out for me). And my uncle's yard is pretty cool, so they will probably let me exchange the computer if for some reason it doesn't work.

That and I can get a really good deal through my uncle too.

Ok, got another question/ problem.

I got the pedal assembly out of that Explorer yesterday, and then started to take the eassembly out of my Ranger, and realized they are quite different.

The Explorer bracket mounts with two bolts at the top, where as mine mounts with one bolt in the center at the top.

So, my question is, instead of taking a bracket out of a truck at a wrecking yard, and delaying my swap yet another week, is there any reason why I could not just swap the pedals?
I see that there is an E clip that holds the pedals into the bracket. I'm thinking that I could just remove that and take the pedals off, and transfer only the pedals into my truck.

Is the bracket physically different between auto and manual trucks?
