Ok, my old 87 4x4 is still pretty original. 2.9 fm145- five speed it dose have the real axle replaced. but the original is in the bed bad pinon bearing. I won't to build it up some. Not to crazy i won't to do the under carriage. Mainly cause can't decide 4.0 or 302. So as for as axles brackets springs and so on. What would be the best donner to buy to get the best parts and the most parts. I've been in tech reading up, but hard to decide 9" or 8.8 28 spline 31 splines. I just won't to reg up something to go off road mainly but some in town store runs. I have the old 02 ranger for hwy use.

8.8 31 spline would handle a mild 302. You can find them in explorers up till 2001. Rangers from 88-99. The ranger would be a direct bolt in minus the driveshaft yoke. Explorer would need the spring perches flipped and shock mounts moved.

9" would be overkill.

My 31 spline, 8.8 handles my built 347 (425hp) even with the 36's, a locker, and 4:56 gears. Mostly its on how you drive. Hammer on anything, and it will break.
