About a month ago, I started noticing that my 99 Ranger (standard cab, manual transmission) would chug and sputter when coming to a stop. 2 weeks ago my timing belt broke and has been replaced, but I feel that is unrelated to the problem. My truck is doing the same thing, but it's mostly when the engine is cold. I put some injector cleaner in my fuel today to see if that helps, but I'm afraid it's not going to be that simple. Can anyone shoot out some ideas of what it may be? Thanks!

Check the MAF and IACV

I'm going to go out on a limb and say your timing actually could be the problem. If you didn't set it right--either 6 degrees or 10 degrees BTDC (before top-dead center), you'll have issues with it immediately stalling once it starts. Make sure the timing tensioner, as well, isn't frozen or the spring isn't worn.
