Im just trying to figure.out what that wire is for is all..
I haven't looked at the rest of the diagrams, but it sounds like it comes from the A/C system and sends a signal to the computer. This may be for the computer to kill the A/C during a wide open throttle event, or it could be for the computer to raise and change the idle strategy with the increased load of the A/C. In other words, unnecessary wiring for a v8.

its a plug. if there is a hole there....then whats the point of all of the fancy seals on the connector. how then will the connector be water proof??

the fact you dont understand that is perplexing to me...especially since there is a map pin for the pins with circuit number and color.

38 is used, just not in this case...but generally in a gem/data scenario which the explorer side may have. its usually yellow/white though.

but these colors change. sometimes the ac signal is pink depending on year and model.

like i said...you can pop the plug and move it over so its 38...
 
Dude, listen to @bobbywalter he's steering you right. Just did this swap on my '99 in 2024 using a '00 Explorer donor. He's right. I don't have the EVTMs handy or I'd take pictures and post them.

When comparing connector pinout to the diagram, look at the open side of the connector, not the harness side. If you look from the open side you'll see that there is an unpopulated pin hole right where he marked pin 38. Just because it's a 42 pin connector doesn;t mean it has 42 pins, and they don't renumber them just because they didn't use one of the holes. As bobby said it's sealed from the harness side to prevent water intrusion.

The wires for one of the pressure switches runs through the engine harness on the Ranger. On the Explorer it's run through the body harness up to the core support. That's why you have the wires on one side and not on the other. You'll have to add in wires for that switch to get the AC working properly. On mine, I used the Explorer HVAC hoses with the switch up at the core support, so I routed those wires up along the fender like the Explorer did.
 
Man this ain't my first rodeo.. it is however my first 4 cly swap. Im telling you what I see. If Im wrong Im wrong.ill go check for the 20th time when I get home from work. Last one I did was 400 hp 302 and t5 using the explorer harness and stock bottome end....
