I just recently picked up a B3000 troy lee, 5 speed, rear wheel drive. The truck has about 220,000 miles on it and figured that I would just swap the engine when it eventually wears out (granted I'm sure it has quite a bit of life in it yet)

I was just curious as to what kind of engines I would be able to drop in there other than just another ranger/B3000 with fewer miles.

I've seen a lot of posts about the 5.0 explorer engines, is this generally the best move to make?

Welcome Dellbert!

Depends on what you want...can afford...and your driving ability.

There have been a number of documented swaps posted on this site over the years...check out the Tech Articles for more information...but essentially, almost anything can be done...including the 5.0...but the only one that fits your transmission is the 3.0 so that would need to be changed as well if you go with a different engine.

The 3.0 is a good place to start and get some experience...and should last a long, long time if you take care of it and change the oil regularly...not too much power there but enough to get you from a to b in plenty of time...

Put a remanufactured 3.0 and transmission in my 94 this june. works fine for me. I drive around town.
