I have a 98 ranger w/3.0 having problems. it has 205,00 miles on it. New fuel filter , mass air flow sensor and throttle position sensor. it will start and has 60 psi fuel pressure but then while it setting there all of a sudden it starts idling rough like it is starved for fuel and ends up dying on me. then you start it back up and it runs fine. while it is doing this if you pump the gas pedal it will finally catch and run. had a diagnostic and not throwing any codes, anyone have this problem before?

Does it have any trouble driving? Or only at idle? Could be the IAC (idle air control valve)
No it drives fine once it gets over its little fit. I just replaced the IAC about a month ago.

nope no codes.
found that the new mass air flow sensor faulty also that the new IAC bad also found that the shaft in the throttle body was worn out and leaking by ( found this out by doing the smoke test. replacing item now will give update when done.

Wow, IAC and MAF both bad? Please divulge the BRAND(s)... always a shifting landscape with the after-market stuff... but FoMoCo's high OEM prices insures there will always be choices!

That surprised me, but it would not have stopped the engine altogether. Both IAC and MAF produce fine grain data in FORScan, so they are easy to diagnose by comparing with a good running engine.
