97 Ranger fuel tank replacement

I am trying to replace my fuel tank on my 97 ranger 4.0 XLT and it has been rather difficult to find. Does anyone know of another model tank that fits without any modifications?

Wrecking yard, there will be no new ones available

1993 thru 1997 should be plug and play, same fuel system

Regular cab used 17gal(16.5) version
Extended cab and Long bed used 20gal(19.5) tank
Not sure larger tank will replace smaller

Thank you for this. Not sure if it is true but, I was told that in California they drill a hole in all gas tanks when they enter the junk yard because they can't store gas for safety reasons.

Yes, that's true, in many States, if wrecked vehicles are to be stored on bare ground the fuel needs to be drained
