Hey all,

I'm transplanting a newer, lower mileage 97 4.0 OHV motor into my 93 XLT Supercab 4x4.

I noticed tonight when I pulled the original flywheel from the 97 motor that the rear main seal looks like its seen better days.

I want to replace it and need to know which route to take with it.

Are the Fel-Pro PTFE Rear Main Seals any good at all??

I see that there is a genuine Ford seal out there with a built in sleeve that I can install, but I'll need to buy a very high dollar installation tool to do the job correctly...not real crazy about going that route if the Fel-Pro is a decent alternative??

The crank doesnt appear to have any grooves or scratches in it as there's only around 123,000 miles on the motor so I'd like to think the sleeve isn't really necessary at this point?

I'm building this truck to be a reliable keeper, not just a beater so that's another thing to take into consideration too I suppose?

What do you all think?

Thanks!

When installing my 5.0 I picked up a new rear main seal. I chose the offset, double lip rear main seal from Enginetech. Bought at RockAuto. I liked the idea of both the double lip AND the offset lip/s riding on a new spot on the crankshaft..

Might be worth looking in to..
