Hey guys,
Found out that my EVP sensor is not hooked up because I still have the 97 intake on the motor. Same thing with my ACT sensor not hooked up. The EVP looks different on the 97, so no way to hook it up unless I change the manifold. Not sure about the ACT sensor yet. Would either one of these cause a no start condition? BTW Someone else started this project and I just have the duty of fixing it right because the truck is now mine :)

What did you do about the crank sensor?see above post

I took off the 97 crank shaft pulley. Drilled holes into the block very carefully. Threaded the holes and mounted the bracket for the 91 crank sensor bracket with the motor still in the truck. Had to search around for a belt that would fit because the 91 crank pulley is smaller. Grounded the dis and she fired right up. Found out yesterday while on my first off road mission that after a stall, if I hold the gas pedal to the floor, she starts up. Not sure why yet. Maybe fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator? Guess I won't worry about the EVP and ACT sensors yet. doesn't seem like I can hook them up unless I change the intake.. Will the 91 2.3L intake manifold bolt right up to the 97 head without modification?? :icon_welder:

What do you guys think about taking off the first R on the ranger logo?

Are you going to use the 92 intake on the 97 motor? If so, let me know if you have any problems. Thinking of switching mine..

Nope. I'm going to be using the 97 intake. I pulled a wire harness from an 89-92 ranger with the 2.3L. Some of the sensor plugs I'll have to swap over.

One thing I've run into is the CAS. That's the wires going down on the drivers side behind the cam belt cover correct? the 97 has 2 sensors down in that area where the harness I have is setup for only one. The Gen2 harness I have also has a red/green wire that is a 12V in run.

Also there is a module that was missing on the drivers side intake. Is this the EDIS module? I'm going to need that one, if anyone has one laying around.

Went off-roading and dam return nipple on the power steering pump broke off. Good thing a have a spare laying around. Tach also went dead. Do you guys know if the oil pressure gauge could effect starting. Mine is not hooked up..:headbang:

I could really use a response on this. 2.3l 4 cylinder. The 91 intake should work on the 97 motor right?

95 plus rangers are equipt with a cam and crank sensor, the 94 and older(non-california) 2.3 mototrs are only equipt with the crank sensor. this is the one that you need to drill holes for in the newer block. So far as i've seen no one has used the newer crank sensor with older electronics.

The module you're talking about is the DIS module(or ICM- ignition control module). You can find one at ur local junk yard pretty cheap im sure. When using the newer intake, it dosen't have a place to mount the ICM, if it's not grounded properly you won't get spark so make sure wherever you mount it that you ground it. I've seen numerous no-run situations because one of the small mounting screws was not installed in the ICM.

There is not much more to it that that, i'd say the most difficult part is going to be drilling and tapping the holes in the block for the earlier crank sensor, the rest should be cake. good luck. :)

I don't see why not it's the same motor so the intake port spacing should be the same.

As for the ACT on the 97 it's mounted into the intake tube between the MAF and TB.

As for the EGR. Just delete it. The harness I have from the 90 was a non EGR motor so I'm going to pull all that off mine.

Here is my question Cam sensor and CAS. Where are they located? The one that is behind the cam cover is that the CAS. Why could I not use the 97 CAS with the 90 harness? Just need to splice 3 wires and put some new shielding on.

Primary coil was not plugged in. no wonder I always had to push start..:icon_hornsup:

Just wondering where did you find a belt and what size you went with here?
Do you have AC hooked up?
I am going to have the same problem.
I bolted the 91 intake on my 96. The intake is where most of my sensors were.
I`m going to attempt the CKP mod today, wish me luck.

What did you do with EGR? To use the intake I had to modify the EGR tube coming off the header.
also was wondering what did you do about alternator
