Fix it till its broke!
Ok so what's the wire attached to the lid for? Gonna use this as extra storage, but worried about that wire.

As far so know there is no passenger airbag, so can I unhook and tuck back that wire attached to the cover?

It's attached to the cover on a plastic clip not sure if it does anything lol. It feeds into the harness I think. Literally you pull off the cover and there is what seems to be a empty socket in a plastic clip that's attached to the cover, there doesn't appear to be an airbag in the compartment so im thinking it's for the non-existent airbag

Might be.

Does your truck have other airbags?

Driver and that one is definitely there.

I think that is a sensor wire. I will try to find my older Ranger manuals and look it up (if it is in there). Post a photo of it for us. I do know one thing for sure....your insurance company won't pay you a cent if you tamper with the airbags or sensors in anyway. Just be careful, Bro.

if you unplug it, the airbag light comes on just as if theres an airbag missing. not really sure why ford would have done it that way since it's just a cover. maybe you can cut the cover apart and just keep whatever small electronics are there?

That wire plugs into the passenger side airbag module (which you don't have). There should be a bypass plug in place of the airbag module. That is probably what you are asking about. As long as you keep the bypass plug attached, you can move the wire to a hidden place in the dash.

IF this plug comes undone while the truck is turned on, it will set off the airbag system on both sides of the passenger compartment, which will render the truck undriveable, and may injure passengers. Make sure the plug / wire is where it will not get snagged.

Good deal so keep the little clip on it end zip tie and duct tape the shit out of it then got it

So then srteach is correct here? I should take pictures if when I do this and when the airbag blows up in my face lol.

Its for the passenger side airbag. On later models, Ford added the passenger airbag key switch where the 12V power socket is. I know what you're talking about on the plug. As for setting off the airbag when the vehicle is on and the plug is disconnected, no. The dummy plug needs to be plugged in for the airbag system to work. Buts if its disconnected, the system sets off the light and disables.

I was actually thinking about adding the passenger airbag to my Ranger. But I don't want to mess around with a saftey device that can literaly blow up in my face. Airbag face plant, not fun.
