The 96 has a 3.45 ratio and the 97 has a 3.55 ratio. Would there be any problem if they were exchanged? And as a side not, would the 10 inch drum brakes be better than the 9 inch drums?

You are new, I'll go easy.....learn to use this. We won't do your leg work for you.

Also here. What rearend do you have in either. The 7.5 is the only rearend that came with the 3.45 gear. The 10 inch brakes are usually found on the 8.8.

I used the axle library to figure out what ratios I'm dealing with. I want to know if the axles being different ratios if it will cause any problems.

I don't have an exact answer for you. But I had my wife read this response. And after reading the response and looking at everything he has listed below his screen name she quickly said he must have a small unit and that he really needs to get a date.

Hopefully you can find your answer in the tech library.

That will get you exactly no where here! You have been on here long enough to know that.
You have a problem with the way that I deal with the ones who won't use the "SEARCH" button then send me a PM and we'll discuss it. Do you wear the pants in your family?

To the OP.....I am not understanding what you are wanting to do here? What rearend is in your truck right now? Are you wanting to change out the 3.45 with the 3.55 or vice versa? If you go to the 3.45 ratio and the 7.5 rearend then you are down grading. The 3.55 gear with the 8.8 is the rearend I would stay with as it is stronger. The brakes will swap over from rearend to rearend, all you have to do is swap the backing plate for either. The 10 inch brakes are of course better.

Well nobody has managed to hit the important point yet. Are either of the trucks 4x4? If so, yes it will cause problems on the 4x4 truck. I think wheel cylinder fitting sizes are different as well between the two. Something to keep in mind.
