I just replaced my 4.0 in my 95 ranger and the throw out bearing/slave cylinder had blown apart so i replaced it and the master cylinder i have bled and bled and bled so finally i got a pry bar and pushed the throwout bearing back and opened the bleed screw ive got a tight pedal but when u start it it wont go in gear but if u put it in gear and start it the clutch works pull out go for second no deal any suggestions? also the fluid is kinda dirty could this b a factor?

Dirty is bad, except if it's your mud flaps we're talking about.

Go getcha your self a can of DOT 3 brake fluid. Take the cap off the reservoir and steal your Mom's turkey baster and suction out the old brake fluid. Top off the res. with new brake fluid. Leave open for now. open the bleeder and let it drip until you see the new stuff dripping out. As a Ranger noob, I dunno whether you messed up the slave/throw out , but I wouldn't have pried it Good luck.

Huey, I'm not trying to insult your literate abilities, but your entire sentence is a jumble to me and I am not able to follow what you're talking about. Perhaps if you wrote it out more clearly, I (and others) would be able to help you out. So, please?

Also, that which you do say doesn't seem linear to me. I can't tell whether your throwout bearing is stuck, the bleeder screw is stuck, the master cylinder isn't working, the slave cylinder isn't working, or whatever else could be wrong. I also don't see how replacing the 4.0L relates immediately to the clutch and flywheel. Did the clutch not work before or after replacing the motor?

Anyway, please help us understand you better so that we may help you out more precisely.

ok the i bent two rods in the engine and had to replace it while the engine was out someone hit the clutch pedal and blowed the throw out bearing apart so i put a new one in it and after i got it running no pedal i bled and bled and guy at the ford dealer told me to replace the master cylinder. so i did. now i have a a little pedal near the floor at the bottom but if truck is running it and u push in clutch it will not go into gear. if u shut truck off put in gear push clutch in start back it dont move if u let off clutch it pulls. i pulled out of the driveway went for second and no deal. went to turn around and couldnt get it in reverse so i shut truck off put in gear u catch the drift right? u can pump and pump and it will not go into gear.

When you are bleeding it, are you gravity bleeding or having a friend help you?

ive done both. also my brother is tube fed so i took one of his old tubes and syringe and bled it like that pushed fluid through it then tried pulling fluid through it then tried gravity bleeding then had my dad helping me bleed it.

"the i": You do not need a definate article when refering to yourself. "OK, I bent..." is the proper form of that phrase.

"Blowed": This is NOT the past tense of the verb "to blow". To blow is an irregular verb in English and the correct past participle is "blew".

"push in clutch": Here you do need a definite article. "push in THE clutch".

"It don't" This is an incorrect conjugation. The correct third-person past tense of "to do" is "doesn't or does not". Don't is the first and second person conjugate.

Puctuation and capitalization: Learn them and use them, properly.

Now, on to the mechanical problem. You didn't bench bleed the system properly before installing it. As such you have almost no chance of bleeding all the air of the system before your leg muscles build up to be the size of Arnold Schwartzenager's arms.

Go to Sears, get a hand operated vacuum pump (I understand you are from Tennessee, no your mother's Hoover will not work for this procedure), and then open the reservior cap, hook the pump to the bleeder valve, and pump it up to make sure your seal holds at least a little. Then open the bleeder, re-seat your vacuum nipple, and pump away. Close the screw, pump the pedal 20 times rapidly, refill the fluid and repeat. Do that four or five times and you should be good to go.

I went to a private christian academy i admit my grammar is not the best but thats not why i was on here to be schooled ill just go elsewhere i just needed some advice.

That's all well and good, but when communicating about technical issues it is of utmost importance to be crystal clear, especially over the internet where we have no source of information aside from what you tell us.

I'm assuming this is a result of my hoover comment. I'm sorry that not everyone can appreciate my dry and sarcastic sense of humor, but I have met a number of my sister's friends who are from Tenessee who I can see geniunely attmepting to use a vacuum cleaner instead of spending the $30 on the tool to do it right. For what it's worth, I can see a few of my neighbors and friends trying the same thing.

Plus, you do have to admit that we get more than our fair share of idiots that come through here who need things spelled out at a basic level. I would love to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and assume they are at least on my level of basic intellegence, but too often that has resulted in me giving answers that are above the original poster's level, so I'd rather give a spelled out answer and make my post sound like I'm pandering to someone than give one written at a higher level and have the person miss some vital step that I thought was implied or required by common sense which creates a dangerous situation when skipped. To use an extreme but real life example, it is just too dangerous to assume someone knows you have to tighten the lug nuts after taking the wheel off.

Unfortunately for your situation the factor that I have noticed that USUALLY seperates the goobers from the intelligencia is the quality of the typing in their posts. Not knowing you in person, I have nothing else to go on to gauge your abilities, schooling, intelligence, or how badly you may try to "redneck" something.

And I did tell you how to fix the problem as I understand it from what you have given us to go on.

Adsm08 does not mean to bully you into leaving this forum; his intentions are to help you learn to communicate to us so that we can successfully understand you and help you.

Now that things have been laid out in as simple terms as can be, let's get back on topic of your clutch.

Was Adsm08's advice understandable and sufficient for you to have your problem fixed?

take the master cylinder out of the firewall and take the quick disconnect out of the tranny then hold the master cylinder with the rod down and bleed it that way pump it a few times then take a screw driver and release the pressure air gets trapped in the bottom of the master cylinder and this is the only way ive found to get it out

I wont get time to try it till sunday thats the only day im off or get home in time but i will try all the above. thanks

also do you have to have a tool to get the quick disconnect out?
