A few months ago I stalled out in a toll booth (embarrassing, I know). I tried to restart and she wouldn't fire. Turned over and over, but no fire. After a minute or two of sitting, waiting, and trying again it finally started.

Last week I pumped gas at the gas station and jumped back in to go again and truck did the same thing - turned again and again, but no fire. Had to wait almost 15-minutes before she fired up again (just before I called for a tow).

Yesterday I stopped to drop a movie off at the library and had to stop the truck (e-brake sticks). I jumped out and jumped back in almost knowing that it wouldn't start for me. Sure enough. Nothing. Cranks and cranks and cranks, but no fire. I heard from a buddy of mine that it might be the fuel pump relay. I didn't take time to check which one was the FP relay, I just swapped the three around and slammed the hood nice and hard. Truck started right up. Drove to the parts store to pick up a new relay to keep in the glove box, but forgot my wallet and left the parts store empty handed.

Today I left church and went to a viewing at the local funeral home. Paid my respects quickly and came back out and the truck wouldn't start (again). Minutes before the tow truck arrived (I did swap the relays again, hoping this was it), I tried "one-last-time" and she fired up!

Can anyone tell me what's going on here? It feels like that first immediate-try to start the truck back up there's a bit of hesitation at the "usual" crank-spot and I let-off before the truck turns "all the way" over.

When I got home from the funeral home after my near-interaction with the $75 tow-fee (I called them off, by the way) I did some trouble-shooting by starting and stopping the truck a few times. I felt the hesitation but just kept cranking-through and she started up.

when it does not start do you have spark?.......is it a standard........will it pop start?

I have neither tried to pop-start the truck nor check to be sure that there is/isn't spark at the plugs. I assumed that a pop-start only works when the battery is dead, which doesn't seem to be the issue because eventually the truck fires up...

I never assume anything........I agree the pop start would prob not tell us much, but.......if you have a standard and you are not using it to your advantage it lets us know your mechanical knowledge level......and a ignition switch and or lock cylinder might impede the truck from starting, but a pop start might get it going......and since you brushed over the spark?.........I will take your lead and "assume" you are not real interested in fixing your truck.....good day!!!!

Blackwidow........ read my second sentence back to me........and I have a question for you .......if that was your truck and it was a 5 speed....would you have tried to pop start it? yes or no

if it dont start with the key, and its cranking over, what makes you think that push starting it will get it to run?

its like pull starting a snow blower if it wont kick over with the electric starter.

the engine is turning, but theres a bigger problem here then just an ignition switch.

he could have a clogged fuel filter, a bad fp relay, no spark when it does its thing. theres so many variances that we wouldnt even know where to begin without more info from the OP.

I doubt very much that a clogged fuel filter is keeping it from starting when warmed up.......a clogged air filter can do that.........I dont buy your snow blower analogy......and he said he already changed the relays!!!!!!!!......Blackwidow......I had already mentioned the no sprak idea ..but the op decided not to test it.......

and modelageek. you really need to work on your typing skills. im not being a critic, and i make mistakes often too. but your posts are really hard to read.

thanks Chump..............coming from you that means something.........you are an idiot..........is that clear enough for you..........

Blackwidow.....I know that was really confusing.......next time I will try and keep it simple..........and you have yet to answer one question I asked you.....moron..........just trying to help you out!!!!!!!!!!

Blackwidow...... this is what i wrote before you even posted anything........I agree the pop start would prob not tell us much,....... if you had read the whole thread instead of just parts before you commented.......you prob piss people off on purpose just to get your posts up..........I hate people like you.........I bet you got the Napoleon complex.....

what?

I've been reading this forum for a few years now, I'm wondering why half the

time modelageek gives decent advice, and the other half of the time he just

argues off topic and pisses everybody off?:icon_confused:

Check to see if you have a loose wire by the battery and relay box.
BTW, push starting would rule out the ignition switch, soleinoid, and starter because the tranny turns the crank instead of the starter.
