Been doing some research and reading anything I could find on the web, and it seems like I need to move up to the 4.10 gears from 3.45 for my 2.3 Ranger.

It feels very under powered and accelerates horribly slow. I'm needing a better low end acceleration over 2-3 mpg on the highway. I just want to make sure that I have it correct here that 4.10 would be the best choice. My tire size is 225 70 r15 which is stock, and I'll be keeping it thus.

Also, can anyone recommend and a good brand of gears at a decent price?

I started with a 94 2.3 7.5 with 3:45 gears 225/70-14 tires. It couldt get out of its own way. Let alone pull my 14ft alum. boat. I up graded to a exporer 8.8 3:73 gears with a limited slip. It is a whole different truck. 4:10s would have been better, but i also need good mialege. I lost 3 mpgs. If i was a little smarter. I should have went with 4:10s and got 235/75-15s. I didnt know how limited the tire selection was for 225/70/14s. The limited slip is great too. Hope that helps.

If you have the time,go to a boneyard and pull a set of 4.10,s.but if you need them quick, there is always a few sets on ebay.Probably between $150-$175.Excellent gear for a 2.5

I'm doing the same thing under recommendation. Although at my local U Pull It a full 8.8 ranger rear minus the drums is only 90 bucks. The rear i'm pulling has a LS which would make sense having such low gearing. I just hope it's impressive enough that i don't need some sort of no slip after the fact. Look up the axle codes that someone was nice enough to post on this beautiful site. Write them down on a 3x5 card and head to a yard. If you don't have a yard near by then this post is a wasted effort on my part.. just trying to help. Getting gears set up should you choose to replace them should be done by a professional driveline specialist though. And the labor usually isn't cheap. A new ring and pinion set up plus a no slip cost me 9 and some change for Ram. Granted.. that was a Dana 44. Let us know how you make out
