you shouldn't have to "wire around" anything. First thing I would do is pull the cargo lamp assembly out and use a meter or test light to see if the black/pink wire has 12 volts with the switch turned on. If it does, see if it reads 12 volts on the black wire. if that reads voltage, then the ground is disconnected somewhere. If you don't have 12 volts on the black/pink wire, then you need to see if it is getting 12 volts at the light switch connector. Of course, also make sure the bulbs are good. But since the dome light is also not working, I'm thinking it's a wiring problem common to both lights.
