Hey everyone,
I am asking for guidance/help. I have a 1994 donor f150 with a 5.0 and am looking to drop it in my 2004 ranger since the 3.0 seized on me this weekend. Would this be the same as using an explorer 5.0? By the way, my ranger is 2WD. Any help is greatly appreciated.

5.0 out of an f150 is gonna be lot more work to fit in the ranger because it is longer in the front. Ford made custom brackets for the explorer 5.0 to help it fit in the engine bay better. Plus the f150 5.0 is obd1. Obd2 is easier to tune and troubleshoot. If at all possible I would look for a donor expo.

The Explorer 5.0 would be almost plug and play to your truck. Same engine bay, very similar wiring, fuel lines, etc.

That 94 F-150 has the wrong oil pan, intake manifold, accessory brackets, wiring, transmission, fuel hook ups, exhaust, pretty much everything but the long block.

You'd be better to try selling the F-150 and using that money towards an Explorer.

to all

Hey y'all,

Thanks for the information, what you say needs to be done is way more work than I am willing to put into it. It's too bad cuz its a really decent ranger.

No, f150 is way to much work. The 5.0 explorer it WWWAAAYYYY less work.

Keep the ranger - Sell or Swap the 150 to get en explorer with5.0.

Yeah and buy another one for ranger850

Just poke another 3.0 into it. Easy fix.

When are they just going to start making "add a cylinder" kits? You can get them in inline or V configurations, and you just weld it to the front of your existing engine to add cylinders. Make an inline 4 an inline 5. Make a V6 and V8.

Why not?

You know somebody would put together about 4 V32's and gang them together on a frame somewhat resembling a tractor. Then enter a tractor pull and we could watch the YouTube video of it all blowing apart midpull.

That's entertainment!

Screw that. I want add a bank kits instead. Turn your I 4 into a V8.

Weld? No, this should come in a bolt on kit. With stickers.

I heard somewhere you could do that with the Mazda rotories. Never been around one to confirm.

The base 4 cyl in the old Scouts was a 304 V8 with one bank cut off...

I always wanted to try a 3.8 V6 in a ranger. They had some bitchin heads on those things. A shame they never made a V8 version :bawling:

They are just a 302 with 2 cylinders cut off. :icon_twisted:
