u tube video of pulling an 150 out of a frozen lake in Wisconsin.
they might know what they're doing, but no way would I stand that close to it over 20 feet of really cold water.

I can't believe those pump jacks didn't punch through, close as they were to the edge.

wow, i would be really nervous standing on the ice, and then next to some big holes cut and that truck all being in the same area.

3 dudes were in it when it went in. luckily they got out before it went all the way through. that would be horrible.

my dad said he was in his wrangler when it went in the water in north carolina. he said there isn't really anything you can do but it ride it down and then swim up once its already under the water. he said he went back to try and get the wrangler but the tide took it since he fell into the ship channel off emerald isle

Forget that! You wouldn't catch me driving out on the ice in the first place!

For what it's worth.

holy cow, people do some crazy ice stuff. i wouldn't even feel comfortable walking on ice on a lake. maybe a tiny creek where the water is like 12 inches deep but nothing where you could die if you feel through and lost the hole to get back out

A tiny creek is probably more dangerous than a larger pond - moving water reduces the ice thickness. You fall down and moving water tries to pull you under; a pond, you don't necessarily move from where you went down.

Recognize the water is at least 0C (actually probably a couple degrees warmer); often warmer than the air above.

They moved from where the spring made the ice thin (and that could still be relative - it could be 20cm thick, to where they pulled it out, which might be 30cm or more thick - hence the floor jack did OK.

I've play a lot of pond hockey; looking forward to skating on Lake Louise this weekend.

I guess if you grow up in places like that, its normal and you know that stuff. I grew up in the southern states along the ocean so no ice here

Ice fishing was slow once and I got bored, so I started drilling random holes and trying them. The ice was 2-3ft. thick everywhere, then I drilled a hole about 8ft. from my truck and it was only 8." There were quite a few others around and to my knowledge there were no springs, inlets, or outlets nearby. It was a little unnerving and was the last time I drove my truck on the ice. I used a snowmobile or walked after that.
