So I have a 94 3.0 Ranger 5spd that is normally a royal pain to start in the cold but yesterday i went to start it (after not running it in 4 days) and the battery was dead, no biggie i put it on a charger for the day and took my other ranger. When i got home things got interesting, i started the truck surprisingly easily but then the starter kept turning over after the engine was running, i think there's a short somewhere in my clutch switch because (and here's where the magic comes in) i can take the key out, push the clutch in, and the starter will engage! anyways, anybody got any ideas where to begin my investigation?

The starter solenoid is probably stuck. When the clutch is out there is no current going to the starter. As soon as you push the clutch in, the clutch safety switch provides current to the starter and the engine turns over. When the solenoid is working properly, it keeps the current from flowing to the starter when the clutch is pushed in.
