93 Ranger, is this a good deal?

If its a standard cab, it could even be a 2.3.

so, its a 93, and it does have the 3.0. here's a few pictures i snapped of it. the door code says its the 7.5" geared 3.73 open, however the tag is missing off the rear differential. The guy said he replaced everything in the front differential, cause it was all destroyed when he got it.

$400 cash, going to pick it up tomorrow.

The front end was destroyed, thats one of those d28/35 hybrids i do believe. The frame isnt too bad, is there a buckle in it up by the crossmember over the axle? You dont show it in the pics but that seems like the mist logical place for it to bend. Take the spare tire xmember out, come-along the frame back out to the proper dimensions, and put a piece of 2x4 box steel in there. Id pay 400 for that thing, good deal.

The 88 I'm working on, I noticed that the area of the frame that is hidden behind the gas tank, had issues, I ended up drilling the rivets on the Drv side front leaf hanger, and replacing with grade 12 bolts, tourqued and welded nuts, the entire side from tank back is in worse shape than the rest of the frame.

BTW, Just in front of the trans cross bar, about 1/2 up the side of the frame rail is the "year" code for the frame (eg: 88 for mine) both rails are stamped (incase someone joins a set (mix and match). Oh, and the trans cross bar DOES have a "front" (and arrow) on the underside, check to see if it's in backwards (throws the shaft alignment out if it's in backwards.........)

the bend is on the rear cross member, where the bumper should be, behind the rear leaf spring hangers. the cross member in front of the axle looked fine. it looks like someone chained to it and just yanked the shit out of it. I'm gonna try to cut a good cross member off ranger that's totaled in the front end in my local scrapyard and weld in in place of the bent one. i have no idea about the d28/35, if i get some better pics when i get it home can someone identify it? what's the downfall of it? just weaker d28 in the d 35 housing?

the lift is worth the 400, I have a 97 with the 3.0 and 34s. And i aint goin to lie. I hate a 3.0 with everthing in me, it's going to be under powerd but what do you expect its a 3.0 with some big ol tires.

But that looks all most like the my 97 when I bought it buy it bulid and beat it......good luck!

I really didnt mind my 3.0 in my 98, a tad underpowered with 31's, so i can imagine what 35's are like. haha. I'm probably gonna get a smaller tire on it, and if i have to take the body lift off. and thanks :icon_thumby:

Well what I'm saying is the framerail itself is likely buckled, it can't be moved that much without a bend somewhere, not that its a big deal, just put a new crossmember in there and make sure the thing isn't gona dogtrack going down the road. The hybrid is pretty much a D28 with 35 outers (knuckles, outer bearing, brakes, etc), so the ring gear and all that is d28 stuff.

to tell if its a hybrid 28 or a true D35, pull the fill plug off the front of the axle, if you see a bearing cap, its the 28 hybrid, if you see the carrier its a true D35. with a 3.0 i doubt you'd break a 28 hybrid diff, if you were going to regear, just find a true D35 & it will bolt right into the axle beam. when i had to get a replacement drivers side beam, what i brought home was a 28 hybrid, my D35 went right in, no issues. sure, that would be a fun toy,fix the rear frame, build a simple flatbed (if for no other reason than to keep the mud off the rear window & give you some weight on the rear axle), and have some fun!

Well i dont plan on wheeling the piss out of it(yet), especially not with those tires and a 3.0, and what i think are factory gears. I'll pull the plug and check when I get home from the concert this weekend. I just need an occasional driver for the winter, cause all I've got to drive right now is an old Festiva. And if I'm gonna have a truck to just sometimes drive, you know its gotta be huge. haha
