Guy is wanting $3000 for a 2000 Ford Ranger 4.0 4X4 5spd 170,000miles Extended cab

The good.
Runs good everything works
Body, paint is straight and no rust
clean carfax

The bad.

Good deal ? What would you give for it

Did you go see/sit in it and check it out?

The bad.
needs a clutch= $100 + labor, or time if you do it yourself
torn drivers seat= seatcover
needs tires soon= $700 give or take
abs, airbag, and engine check light are all on = need to get it checked out to find out why

And the 2000's had the pulse vacuum hubs....

But Indyram has it nailed pretty good on the issues you listed.

I would want to know why the airbag light is on, that can have the potential to be costly if it needs either of the modules replaced... Might also be that the light in the key switch under the ashtray is burned out (tells you if the passenger side airbag is disabled)

ABS could be a wheel sensor or the sensor in the rear axle, could be the abs pump itself... another possible costly fix, but one that I would probably ignore (hell the abs light on my truck has been on for almost 10 years...)

If you test drive it, take it to autozone or o'reilly's or advanced and have them pull the codes for the check engine.

personally with all that needs to be addressed, I would offer him considerably less than 3000, but it will depend on your area and what similar condition Rangers are going for.

The truck is located in alabama. I havent test driven it yet since its a 2 hr drive for me. He did send me a video of it running and I saw the passenger airbag switch light come on and then go off in the video. I plan on bringing my code reader with me and seeing what I can find out. Hopefully its something as easy as an O2 sensor.

Sounds too expensive given the "bad", IMO. I paid the same money for my '01 Edge 3.0 Auto 4x4 with 127K miles. It needed a driver's front seat cover and two new tires. The previous owner had done a ton of front suspension work and replaced the 4x4 control module. On top of that, the truck had spent its life in northern Florida and southern Georgia (totally rust free). Granted I think I underpaid but I think there's too much potential for that truck to be a "money pit". Just my $0.02.
