I replaced the passenger side hangers and leaf spring when I got my ranger and now I've moved onto the driver side. Well I have removed the rear and front hangers and am now staring at the gas tank. I saw a how-to on here about doing the driver side front hanger but it just says its a pain and doesn't go into depth on the issues w the gas tank. I would prefer not to drop the tank. It's a 93 4.0 4x4 xlt manual extra cab and its not bad at all with rust I would just prefer not to drop the tank. What would the easiest method be to get the hanger installed? I was thinking of cutting about an inch of so of the bottom of the frame so I could get a wrench up to hold the nut. I really don't want to cut into the frame, so I'm leaning towards dropping the gas tank. Any tips or suggestions that have helped you? Thank you!

Your idea about cutting a small piece of the frame out to avoid dropping the gas tank. I've had ideas about shooting myself because I was bored that were better than that idea.

Drop the tank.

If you pull the bed you can get at those fasteners. still not easy but the only way- unless you drop the tank.

Drop the tank. Make sure you have new tank straps on hand before you start. It is the safest and best way to do what you want to do. Make sure you have the tank mostly empty to make the job easier if you don't have a transmission jack handy.

Sounds like I'm dropping the gas tank! Haha, thank you for the tips y'all. Appreciate it!

If you happen to have an ATV/MC jack, or have a friend who does, they're great for removing the gas tank. Bite the bullet and pull the bed off, it makes the gas tank and spring work soooo much easier.

Got the bed off. Hardest part was moving it! Everything went back on flawlessly after removing the bed and I got to really drive my truck for the first time since buying it in July. Excited about this thing!
