I have a 92 ranger with 144,638 / Good body and paint

This truck has been very dependable since my purchase in 2003.

I'm not a mechanic but I do try to stick with the Basic maintenance.
Plugs, oil, fluids, brakes, etc.

Recently my local oil changing shop (i had a coupon)
told me my oil pan gasket and rear seal needed replacing.
I'm sure he's right since my oil pan is also grungy from seeping oil.
But it doesn't leak much in my opinion, maybe a few drops under my parking space overnight.

My question is what does this cost? I live in Asheville Nc and Im sure I have a ton of "good old boys" to help repair this if needed.

I know this often requires removing the engine.

Is it worth it?
Should I sell this truck before its gets worse?

My 92 2.3L has been leaking from the oil pan gasket for the past 85K miles. I just check it on a regular basis and keep lots of oil with me at all times. To replace this gasket, you need to either pull the engine, or drop the traction beams. I have no idea on how much this would cost. To me, it seemed much easier to just add a bit of oil here and there to keep it up to level. My leak hasn't gotten worse, at least that I've noticed, so you shouldn't be too concerned about selling the truck. Just keep an eye on the leak, and carry a few extra quarts of oil with you at all times.

Perfect answer.
Thanks

actually, just crawl under your truck with some 1/4" ratchet, extensions and a 5/16" or 8mm socket and tighten up the bolts to the oil pan, also grab a 10mm wrench and tighten the front cover, at least as many bolts as you can get to, this will probably stop 90% of your leak... the oil pan gasket is actually a compressed rubber O ring type gasket and over time the bolts work a little loose...

cheap to fix ,but labor intensive,as you probably know you have to pull the tranny to replace the rear main seal,if you got just a few drops overnight, then its better just to keep an eye on youre oil level.
