Purchased a 92 Ford Ranger 80,000 miles. Long story on why it was purchased. Replaced the leaking radiator 2 weeks ago. Still have to add water daily--uses about half a gallon per 20 miles but no visible leaks. Water showed up in the oil today. Also there is a occasional rattle (rod bearings or valve train) which was there before the water showed up in the oil.

Replace the head gaskets and get the heads checked?
or
Replace the motor with junkyard engine?
or
Any other ideas?

Replace the hoses for the cooling system as well.

My 85 mustang would lose rad fluid mysteriously over a week and I would end up adding more even 5 days or so.

The fluid was evaporating right through the hose without ever forming beads or dripping.
