How can I go about the fixing the crankshaft differences in these engines

I haven't tried going that way myself but I went into pretty good detail to do it to an older block HERE, the only issue doing it to a newer block is the oil pump is behind the aux shaft instead of in the oil pan like they used to be and I don't know where the pickup is. I don't think there's going to be anything in the way but I can't guarantee it... over the last couple years I've heard of a couple people that tried it and regretted it for some reason that I don't remember off the top of my head...

I've had zero reason to tear into my '97 further than doing a timing belt so I haven't seen the inside of the '96-01 block
