The tranny has worked fine up until today. Never made a noise until now. Always went into 3rd and 4th kinda stiff but never failed to go in. Now it won't go into any gear but 5th and reverse. Also has a squeak coming from it and clunked now and again. Any thoughts? Time for another new tranny? Is this thing a pile of junk? This is the second M5OD I've been through in 4 months. No towing, nothing crazy. This is getting a little rediculous.

Will a 3.0L M50D work? I found one that is in good shape. The only 4.0L one I could find the yard wanted $800 for. That's more than I have into the entire truck.

No, the 3.0 has a different bell housing than the 4.0. You MUST get one from a 4.0.

where are you located, I might be interested in it.

I may end up swapping it out for an auto. Not what I had hoped to do as I looked for a 2 door explorer with a 5 speed for a while. I just can't see spending $800 on a tranny when that is what I paid for the truck.

Why do you care if it's a 2door Exploder? The only drivetrain part that is different from a 4door is the rear driveshaft.

Compatible M5OD transmissions were also used in 4.0L (and some 2.9L) Rangers, a few late Bronco IIs, and the 2WD version was used in 4.0L Aerostars.

Don't forget the Mazda B4000!!!

I don't care that it's for a 2 door explorer. I was just stating that this was the truck I wanted to buy because of it being a 2 door and having a manual. I just care about finding a tranny that is an M5OD for a 4.0L or 2.9L. I am a little disappointed in the strength of the transmission. This is the second one I've gone through in 3 months. My autos always held up longer than that.

Sounds like you don't know how to drive a manual properly.

Sounds like you have a clutch hydraulics leak, does it go in gear when the engine is off?

Sounds like you're a moron. :icon_confused:

Does not go into gear when it is off. Same amount of force to get into gear. It has always been stiff into 3rd and 4th since I've had it in there. I didn't mess up the original tranny, a buddy of mine put this one in sometime in August. I checked my slave reservoir and it is still full. I thought about clutch hydraulics also but no leakage. Fluid was a little dark when I drained it. Quite a few tiny shavings in the drain plug magnet although nothing large. I'm gonna pull the top cover off and see if something didn't get bent when they put the top cover back on.

Please don't tell me you filled it with gear oil?
