Hi All, New to this forum. I've been a Ford guy my whole life and been around quite a few years. My first build in 1966 was a 47 Ford flathead 59AB that I rebuilt in my mom and dad's basement. Put the whole running chassis together and before putting the body back on I drove it all over the neighborhood. I've read all of the 4L swap info several times but it is not clear as to what years of donor explorers or rangers engine's and ECU's can be put in my 89 Bronco II with manual trans and not have to replace the dash. I'll assume it all has to do with conflicts between the ECU and instruments. Thanks in advance

'95 was when the newer style dash was used, so 91-94 Explorer and 90-94 Ranger will work, with 90-92 having the most similarities in the wiring.

The pinout on the bulkhead connector on the driver's side changed slightly over the years, so you may have to change/add/remove a few wires depending on the donor vehicle, and whether or not you have power locks, windows, etc.

I have all the wiring diagrams for those years that I can post once you know what year you'll be working with.

Yes 90-92 as BlackBII said, however if you get a 92, try to get an early 92 with the circle engine to body harness plug. On my 90 B2 we only had to splice 8 wires.

Thanks for your response. Just to make sure I get this right, 91-94 Explorer and 90-early 92 Rangers are the easiest as far as donors. I have a son that owns a shop and is brilliant with wiring so I can lean on him some. Thanks again
