As a newbie to the Ranger 4X4 I am full of questions.
I have a 1988 XLT 4X4 with a 2.9 liter V6. Someone in the past removed the 5 spd and installed an A4LD automatic. They did not hook up any kind of oil cooler, or even install the dipstick tube. I will have to drop the transmission just to install the cooling lines (no room for my fat hands).
As I live out in the desert and it is 50 miles to the nearest town, I do not need transmission troubles (I do not trust automatics, they have always let me down at the wrong times). Everything is still in the truck for a manual transmission, master cylinder, clutch pedal. Should not be to much of a problem to go back to the 5 speed.
My questions are;
I have found a TK5 transmission and would like to know if it will work in my truck? The specs call for a FM146 for my model.
Is the bellhousing the same for both transmissions?
And the biggest question of all; What have I forgotten?
Thanks
