I was wondering, since the in-tank pump on an 88 ranger is low pressure, how would it work by itself with a carbed 302? Meaning would it get the fuel to the carb by itself and be the right pressure once its there or would I need to run both pumps and a regulator?:icon_confused:

I'm assuming that you are now EFI. The in-tank pump is way to much for the carb. The EFI pump runs around 60-90 PSI and a carb(I think) runs at 8-16PSI. The carb setup uses a different pump setup.

I'm not the best educated in carb, but someone here is and they will answer your question better than I can.:icon_thumby:

The '88 primer pump is 12 psi. The carb you want no higher than 7 psi. A simple fuel pressure regulator will solve the problem.
Yeah, just the primer pump (in tank pump) and a pressure regulator.
EFI style pumps run on pressure and not volume. To keep up to a big carb at relatively high RPMs you need a fuel sump and a high VOLUME pump.

The truck was originaly a EFI 2.9. So I should be able to get away with the primer pump and a regulator? Meaning I can do away with the pump on the frame. I already have a holley fuel regulator with the bypass line. I am planning on running about a 600 cfm holley carb.
