88 ranger 2/3

i have an 88 2.3 ranger 2wd 5spd that has a strange intermittnae misfire problem that has become more frequent the infrequent.

the truck will run and drive fine then start misfire and steadily get worse until the engine either stalls or i give it wide open throttle and that sometimes does not recover it. but my truck just falls on its face and dies out unless i keep my foot to the floor, when i give it full throttle its running great. the plugs are fairly new, the wires have been replaced, the fuel pump on the frame rail has been replaced, as well as fuel filter and injectors. i have been told it could be a vacuum leak, ot cap and rotor on distributor. i dont know what to think.

the truck also has cold air intake on it, this required removing the Idle air control motor (plugged line on intake). Shoud i put that back on and run a seperate smaller filter for it?? any help would be greatly appreiated.

i would really love to get my hands on one of the deisel motor from the 85 generation.

plugs and wires in the correct order? I would be checking the cheap easy stuff first. If you open the hood and just check stuff. If nothing looks familiar, take it to a shop and expect to pay some money
