Hey guys, got an 87 ford ranger 2.9 that leaks gas. It’s leaking from the fuel bowl that sits underneath the driver side door, and I can’t find a replacement for the fuel bowl. So, my solution is to swap the whole system over from the 2 pump system to a single pump system. I just wanted to ask what my options are here…should I grab a pump from an 88 and take the fuel bowl/second pump out of the line? Or grab something from a newer ranger? What’s my best option here?

Also any tips or tricks would be helpful. Thank you as always:)

I just did this a few weeks ago. I used the stock sending unit and a Kemso pump.

Then ran all new lines, but you could just jumper the reservoir and in frame pump. I've heard of it being replaced with a stock filter for a later model.

I like this. I didn’t know they sold aftermarket pumps that would fit the sender…I think I’m just going to go with running all new lines too. I’ll come back later when I do it, I’m sure I’ll have some questions.

Yeah, you have to use the 88 and older sender but you can get a pump for an 89+

The fuel gauge uses a different resistance in 89+ so you use the older sender assembly in the tank.

Personally, I’d replace lines. It’s a pain and an expense, but we are closing on 40 year old lines. The ones on my 89 and 92 pinholed. My green 00 they started blowing out.

Dorman makes stuff to do factory type lines. I did -6 AN on mine, but I use AN for other stuff too so I saw no reason to buy into the Dorman system too. Use the PTFE line if you go with AN.
