87 4x4 ranger, how to remove engine mounts

Trying to replace the engine mounts on my 87 ranger 4x4 2.9. Engine is out. I bought one of those chinsy chinese chain drive extensions, instantly broke. About to drop the entire front end to access two nuts. Is there any other way I'm missing to do this? Searched but didn't find anything helpful. Thanks in advance

Cleaned a bunch of gunk out of the engine bay today and noticed that the cable from the battery to the starter was crushed against the k and halfway gone. Wiggled the motor mounts and the pass side moves like a hula dancer on a dashboard. Looks like that side broke and let the pan dig into the cable.

How does one go about removing the old mounts? Is there a nut on the bottom side of the part that's riveted to the k?

I had my truck high enough that the tires were hanging with the crane at work and the engine out and it still took me 2 hours to get the mounts out. It's TIGHT with the front axle in there..

I read that thread, but couldn't really tell if they were working on a first gen or not but the summary post at the bottom summs up what I ended up attempting. Removed the passenger side swing arm and radius arm, uncoupled the stub shaft on that side and let it dangle for more room. Removed the drop bracket and was finally able to get to the passenger side nut. Because I'm doing steering gear, I managed the driver side just by taking the steering box and tie rod assembly out. Passenger side was nightmare fuel. What a massive pita. Anyway the new mounts are in and now I'm putting it all back. Working on this d28 ttb has become one of my least favorite things to do. . .
Edit: me thinks dana 30 coilover swap when I wear it out again
