86 Bronco II Driveshaft

I was just under my B2 a little bit ago and saw the boot on the rear drive shaft was 1/2 way off. I have replaced the DS once before... Is changing the DS to one with U-Joints better? If So does anyone know which one to get and ALSO how hard is it to change? This is NOT the 4wd DS.

Which transmission do you have? That's gonna be key.

If you have an A4LD the rear shaft from an 85 auto can be used.

If you have any of the manuals from that year the front shaft from an Explorer or early 90s Ranger will work with some minimal modifications.

The B2 got the A4LD for 85, and they were still using double cardan drive shafts that year, rather than the CV joint ones. I'd be on the look out for one of those. The Explorer or 2nd gen Ranger front shaft can still be used, but needs to be shortened a bit.

Years ago I ran across one in the junk yard and I didn't have the tools to pull a drive shaft, and it was sitting across a fairly deep puddle so I didn't go after it that day. Next time I was back there the shaft was gone.

If I went back to the original style, to change it all I would have to do is remove the old one and install the new one, correct? Or is there something I need to know?

The only thing wrong with mine is the rear part of the DS has a tore boot and is hanging there. Is that a big deal? or should I change it?

If thee boot is all that is wrong I'd just fix the boot, which is admittedly a real pain, but by far the cheaper option.

If you find one from an 85 you will need the rear yoke from the T-case too.

Other than that it should just be bolt in.
