83 Codes?

have you tried unplugging the supposed offending sensors and seeing if it runs the same or gets worse or better?

edit: maybe a vacuum leak or even a vacuum line hooked into the wrong port or maybe bad wire from the ecu shorting out i am not really sure buddy i wish i could help more but hey if all fails due an engine swap

Offending sensors?

Ill double check vac leaks today... with a tester
Checked last night all vacum lines seem to be in there spots...

and for the ecu....

Where would i start on that?

I know i can do an engine swap... i just bought this guy 2 weeks ago and went straight for the carb rebuild put it on... and cant even get out of 2nd gear with all the back fires and misses and what not...

I dont know!

Please guys any help would be awesome!

I dont even know where to start

Sounds similar to problems I had for awhile.I had to unplug the spout connector or the dang thing would buck like a wild horse.I checked crap until I finally converted to duraspark.

Thinking back on it I suspect the computer was wack. The spout is one of the wires going to the tfi module on the distributor,it has a connector about 8" from the distributor,I unplugged the connector and it would idle as smooth as a prom queens thigh. The spout is the signal from the computer to the distributor to advance timing, and is actually unplugged when setting timing, then plugged back in after setting timing.Just someting to check, simple and quick and the truck can be driven with the spout disconnected.

HAHA!

Dang yesterday i rechecked timing with that plugged in!

I know what your talking about i think its yellow? Single wire thats supposed to be disconnected when doing timing...

So run with that unplugged and it should idle better?

Not many people are in the V6 2.8 forum
and im starting to know why

Man, it's not necessarily the 2.8 itself...I love mine to death...it's that worthless TFI carb setup Ford used that is so aggravating.(as you well know) Most of us that can get away with it just go to the D/spark setup & therefore have no clue what to do with that POS setup. I would assume that in Commifornia you have no chance of that....(begin useless rant..Emissions test are a joke everywhere, it's all about the $$$$$$$. I got tested here once & my readings were perfect, he forgot to look under to verify the cat until the last minute, it wasn't there so he failed me. What difference did it make, my readings were perfect without it! ?#*? government regulations, I just gutted it & put it back on, been running that way for 10 yrs! :yahoo:..end rant)
ANYWAY:
I wish I could be of some assistance because I know very well how frustrating it can be...don't ask me how I know..the nightmares will once again haunt me!
I do wish you luck! :icon_thumby:

If you could take the time and read through my post and help me out i would greatly appreciate it

It would take longer than 11 minutes during the day time to get a reply, let alone after midnight.

Also keep in mind, they only made the 2.8 for 3 years for RBV's, and that the newest one is 24 years old...

Set your timing with the spout connector unplugged, then when your timing is set, plug it back in and your rpm should increase slighly.

B2Addict- Thanks man... if i keep at it ill get it eventually... i think im gonna have a mechanic find out whats wrong with it and fix those problems and see where that gets me... i thought after my carb rebuild it would be better so far no good!

85 Ranger- I know i just did that becuase i was about to go to bed and not many people go through the 2.8 section... mostly the 2.9 and 4.0 i see most in... but yea i only figured it would help me...

My Bad

I did that the 1st time... and still had a really high idle...

and yesterday after double checking it and messing around with it i decided to go down from 10 degrees just to see what would happen... with the spout connected and set it somewhere in a bad spot im guessing... i lost my daylight yesterday so todays a new day and i hope i just get a little bit further in fixing it...

Does anyone know what this clicking noise is on the far back left near the firewall...
i looked it up and found out where its coming from i think... it has vacum lines and vacum switched and when my cars running that thing clicks randomly maybe 15x a minute...

And i thinks its having an effect on the idle becuase i start my truck up and it idles fine..

couple clicks then rpms go up from there... then clicks and drops...

there not in perfect sequence but pretty darn close

You have four pages of this thread so far...that should tell you something. Just chill and follow the suggestions we have given you so far... it sounds like you still have not determined whether or not you have a vacuum leak anywhere.

Just FYI, and I know you're new here, but it's considered rude to make a bunch of threads asking for help about the same topic. Usually they get deleted pretty fast too.

I know... like i said everytime i got to the 2.8 section no ones in it... and it doesnt pop up... so i posted a link to that thread in gen discussion... other than that my other threads were different (Probably related) problems...

But thanks for the heads up!

So nothing on that clicking noise?
Im gonna take a vac tester to all my vac lines today...

its just i work all day/post/ask questions so when im off i can get to work!

and i did most of the rest of the stuff people mentioned!

I tested the ECT for the 0.05v and had it sooo next problem... changed the TPS next problem... so i dont know what to do now?

The easiest way to find a vacuum leak is with a can of carb cleaner. Spray it sparingly on vacuum lines and connections with the engine running. When your engine speed changes you know it's sucking in carb cleaner from that spot, which indicates a leak.
