Marketing
It's all about marketing. You haven't marketed your product.
I looked at your site. For $5.00 I can have a picture of me the size of a postage stamp stuck on the side of your truck.
Seriously. That's all I got from your website.
I clicked on the 'about' page and found that the team "consists of Gregg Bouma, Kay Awaad and Richard Bartell. 3 friends who share the love of desert and speed."
That's it.
Why would I want to put money in to that? It's a pretty web page that is asking for a handout.
As a business owner, I'd like to see the TRS logo on a truck. It doesn't necessarily have to win, it just needs to be seen. The team has to be sociable and a positive representative for the TRS logo.
I actually that it would be cool to offer contingency at a couple of races and pay some cash if the truck wins it's class. Offer the logo for free. Cash if you win. Or maybe a decreased amount for 2nd.
But you have to tell me (us) why I (we) should sponsor your truck. Marketing. You haven't done that. How do I know you guys have the experience to even get the truck off the line, or any distance at all. Where and when can I expect people to see it?
Companies are looking for opportunites to advertise. Now, I said advertise, not sponsor. Because really, that's what it is. Every company is looking for advertising to help promote their product, and the advertising is a business expense that they deduct at tax time. Businesses need as many deductions as they can get. But they don't want to just throw the money away. They want to be making a good investment as well. They want to know that the advertising is going to get seen, and show them in a good light.
You need to take another look at your approach and re-think it.
If anyone else is competing in 2012, you may want to re-read what I just wrote. It's easier to understand when you find yourself on the opposite end as the person who may be doing the sponsoring.
Hi Jim, nice to have you on the thread, now that I know who you are.
Reading back what you wrote above, I thought to myself, we got a potential sponsor, silly me, I went googling you and Trs to find out what you sell, hahahha, I got it now.
Listen, we will be honored to carry your logo and would love to do promotions for you here in Baja, we have an average of 1 race a month in north Baja beside the big three 250,500 and the B1k.
Rangers are used a lot as a race truck specially in class 7, which we eyed it from the beginning for the simple reason of low cost for starters and high possibility of winning due to the low finish rate in this class.
We know we are not good at marketing, but hopefully in the future we will be able to hire professional help or partner with someone like you who can help in that field. Thanks again for advice and the great forum.
